Currency


The Eastern Caribbean dollar (EC$) is the island currency. US dollars are often accepted by taxi drivers and larger hotels – be sure when negotiating taxi fares and room rates that you are both talking about the same currency. Traveler’s checks can be exchanged in banks and in larger hotels without issue. Visa, American Express and MasterCard are widely accepted at hotels, car-rental agencies and high-end restaurants.

Plugging In


Electrical sockets/outlets in Saint Lucia are the "Type G " British BS-1363 (220 Voltage). Please consider bringing an adapter/converter.

Temperature


The average temperature in St. Lucia ranges from 70 degrees Fahrenheit to the upper 90s. In November the average daily temperature is a high of 84 and low of 79. There is a rainy season from June to November but the showers tend to come on quickly and blue skies are quick to follow.

Language


St. Lucia's principal language is English, but a French-based patois is widely spoken.

Drinking Water


Drinking water is safe from the tap and bottled mineral/distilled water is also available.

Tipping


A tip is not automatically added and is usually about 10% to 12% of the bill. Tips are generally accepted by bellhops in hotels, taxi drivers and other persons providing service.
